The Catholic Memorial at Ground Zero

St. Joesph’s Chapel was used as a FEMA command station in the wake of the Sept 11th attacks in NYC. It’s location in Battery Park City, on the Hudson River, provided access for rescue efforts. In 2005, after renovations and community healing, The Catholic Memorial at Ground Zero was completed. An inauguration with a ceromony attended by Cardinal Eagan, representatives of the airlines, police, fire and resuce departments, as well as city officals, the media and community, proved to be a lasting tribute the victims and survivors of Sept 11 2001.

Brett Slavin was given a rare Optime award for his sculpture of Our Lady of Guadalupe, honoring all immigrants who worked, or were visiting in the World Trade Center towers at the hour of the attacks.

Constructed in sections and united for installation.
